We have reached a time of great uncertainty. First, please know we are thinking of you as our neighbors and friends.
There is no doubt Ready Set School will be impacted by the current state of the economy. Our prime fundraising season occurs in April and May each year and accounts for 30% of our annual income. Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus, we are now unable to hold key fundraising events. At the same time, a generous, three-year grant award has come to an end, leaving another large $15,000 or 20% gap in our budget this year. And finally, we expect more families may need help brought on by unforeseen financial hardships in the weeks and months ahead.
We exist to serve low-income families in Winona County. Any money raised goes directly to families in need. Last year we served over 800 students in K-12 which was a 35% increase over 2018. We anticipate an increase in 2020 and we hope to expand our program to help families affected by this health pandemic.
