The month of August makes us all think about back-to-school; for some families, this can lead to stress and anxiety. Ready Set School works to ensure all Winona County K-12 students have basic and necessary school supplies for school. Our main voucher program is done for the year, but we still have families that reach out and need help who missed the voucher program. We typically give out 200 additional backpacks full of school supplies in August for families that missed the voucher program. In order to fill the need, we need donations from community members.
If you are out-and-about shopping and would like to help, here is a list of school supplies most requested; plastic pocket folders, notebooks (wide-ruled. college-ruled and composition), pencils, pencil box, pens (black/blue/red), large erasers, scissors, boxes of markers, boxes of colored pencils, glue sticks, bottles of glue, eraser caps, highlighters, dry erase markers, binders, earbuds or headphones, facial tissues and paper towels.
Quality new backpacks are also needed. Please don’t forget we serve kids from kindergarten to grade 12 which means we have a need for larger backpacks for the older kids just as much as the smaller ones for the tykes.
Also, please note we prefer brand-new supplies (not used). Donations can be dropped at our barrel at the Exchange Building located at 51 E. 4th Street; or Steak Shop Catering located at 301 E. Mark Street also has a barrel and donors will receive a free bowl or cone of ice cream!
Donations kindly requested by August 20. Thank you for considering and helping children in need!
